Mudra: Gesture of the Symbol of Shiva

Mudras are hand positions that balance the energetic body, support the physical body, and promote spiritual awakening. The Sanskrit word mudra can be translated as “gesture” or “seal.” The use of Mudras has been strongly identified with Indian culture where they have been used for over 2,000 years. Mudras can be used to communicate the qualities we wish to embody to all parts of our being.

Instructions:

  1. Place the left hand, palm upward, in front of the abdomen
  2. Make the right palm into a fist, with the right thumb extended upward.
  3. Place the right hand onto the center of the left palm.
  4. Relax the shoulders back and down, with the elbows held slightly away from the body ad the spine aligned.

As you hold the Symbol of Shiva mudra, take several breaths to tune into the sensations in the body. Notice how your breath is naturally directed upward in the body, expanding your heart space. This instills a sense of uplifting energy. We can anchor into that uplift of energy and allow it to connect us with divine spirit. Focus on this connection as you continue to breathe and honor your commitment to yourself and your purpose.
