Gemini . Air . Mercury | 5/20 - 6/21

Similar to the seasons within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), planetary alignment connects to specific organs and emotions. Depending on where we are in the calendar year and lunar cycle, our physical and emotional needs change. Understanding the dynamics between planets, elements, and body systems offers powerful, healing insights.

By incorporating the following themes, nutrition and activities into your awareness and daily practices, you’ll be able to balance and support the body by utilizing the energies of nature and the current cosmic connections.

Gemini.Air.Mercury Season: Connection | Adaptability | Communication | Curiosity

Mercury is the planet of connection. It sends and receives information, and it connects one organ system to another. Mercury easily becomes imbalanced in very busy, fast paced times. It’s important to stay flexible but anchored into a routine. Scattered Mercury energy may find it difficult to stay on task or may feel the need to be “informed” to the point of excess on news and social media. Commit to scanning your internal environment as much as you scan your external world.

TCM Season: Late Spring—Liver/Gallbladder
Meridian: Lung
Reflex Point: Lungs 1 (LU1), a.k.a. Front Mu or “Central Palace”

This powerful acupoint is the entry point of the Lung Meridian. LU1 is located on the chest bilaterally, level with the space between the first and second ribs, about one (1) inch under the depression below the end of the collarbone. This point is typically slightly tender to the touch, and has a number of powerful benefits. You can stimulate this point by gently massaging or tapping the point directly.

Working with your LU1 meridian point can offer you:

  • Physical SUPPORT
    • Revive the breath and help to regulate the lungs
    • Can relieve coughing and asthma symptoms
    • Can help to ease chest pain or heaviness of the chest
  • Emotional/Mental SUPPORT
    • Eases and calms grief patterns
    • Allows one to be able to receive words of praise and respect
    • Connecting with inner voice and truth

For added benefit, apply some lemongrass or eucalyptus essential oil to this point and the tip of your thumbs (the end of the Lung Meridian). Take some deep breaths as you release emotional and energetic imprints and residues from your throat and lungs.

Affirmations:
“I am able to steady my mind.”
“I am able to communicate my thoughts clearly.”
“I am open to connection and new experiences.”
“I am able to speak my truth and communicate my needs.”
“I am open to shifting my perceptions.”

Mudra: Palli Mudra (Gesture of the Shelter)

As you hold this mudra, you may begin to experience ease in breathing throughout the entire torso.

The mudra allows the breath to move up and down the spinal column allowing one to find both inner and outer alignment through elongating the spine and creating more spaciousness and steadiness. It supports a willingness to release old limiting belief patterns that no longer support our ongoing growth and transformation.

Seasonal Grounding Activity: Breathwork – four (4) count breath (Try this at least once per day this month)

  • Inhale to the count of 4
  • Hold the breath to the count to 4
  • Exhale the breath to the count of 4
  • Hold the breath out to the count of 4

Focus on feeling the breath move through the abdomen as you fill with air, allow it to circulate, and then completely empty.

Cosmic Activity: In this season, we are asked to connect with our Throat Chakra, the need for good communication and finding authenticity in your voice. Often we have an issue that is creating some stress around being able to say what we would like to say or speak our truth. This activity supports your throat space in clearing out stuck emotions, thoughts, or lingering patterns around feeling safe to speak your truth.

  1. Find some space where you can actively use your voice. The focus of this activity is on vocalizing concerns or feelings that you have repressed.
  2. Ground yourself by taking five (5) deep breaths, as you stand or sit, feeling your feet firmly planted on the ground.
  3. Visualize your throat space with a turquoise diamond in the center. As you continue to connect with your breath for another minute or two, see if you can “feel” your breath coming into this diamond in your throat. You may want to gently place a hand over your throat and the other over your heart space.
  4. Now, listen to your heart, thoughts, and intuition as you allow yourself to acknowledge and honor something(s) that you need to SPEAK OUT LOUD. This can be a conversation that you just can’t have with a person either because they are no longer in your life, or there is too much charge around the conversation.
  5. Offer yourself permission and compassion to vocalize these feelings and statements, pretending that person was in front of you and could receive the words you are delivering. Continue to take a few more deep healing breaths as you notice your throat become “lighter” and clearing after you have spoken these words.

Hats off to you for taking some time to tend to your energetic and emotional body, you will feel much better in the upcoming hours and days after this activity!
